The key objective of this consultancy is to support the communications and knowledge translation work of the Geneva office. The consultant will be responsible for creating and delivering content in accessible ways via diverse communications tools and platforms (including website, social media, and earned media); and documenting the challenges, successes, opportunities, and learnings of inter-linked advocacy in global, regional, and national policy processes.

About the Sexual Rights Initiative

The Sexual Rights Initiative (SRI) is a coalition of six national and regional organizations from all parts of the world with an office in Geneva, Switzerland that has been advocating for the advancement of human rights in relation to gender and sexuality in the UN human rights system since 2006.

The SRI aims to advance sexual rights (broadly defined) as a particular set of rights and as a crosscutting issue within international law, specifically in the work of the UN Human Rights Council and its mechanisms. The SRI’s approach is grounded in intersectional feminist and decolonial analysis.


Scope of Work / Services

Working closely with SRI partners and Geneva-based team and reporting to the Communications and Knowledge Translation Advisor, the consultant will provide the following:

  1. Support the creation and/or the maintenance of platforms that enable the mobilising, organising and advocacy work that SRI is undertaking in multiple spaces such as social media marketing, mobile apps for organising, website development, and multimedia creation, edition and broadcasting.
  2. Monitor the current online discourse on sexuality and gender and suggest appropriate strategies and communications to influence public discourse on these issues.
  3. Engage in the design, development, testing and production of campaigns, media and communication products as a tool to advance SRI’s agenda.


  • Up to five years of working experience or a track record in the production and dissemination of organisational and feminist media & campaigns.
  • Strong IT skills related to media production: video editing, audio editing, graphic design, social media and other online platforms.
  • Knowledge and experience of creating and supporting the production of activist media in collaboration with multiple partners and membership.
  • Excellent writing and reporting skills in English, good writing and reporting skills in Spanish or Arabic is a plus.
  • A good knowledge of the online and mainstream global media landscape.

  • Knowledge and understanding of issues of human rights, and social justice, with a passion for intersectional feminist organising and advocacy for sexual rights.
  • Highly organised, efficient, methodical and ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work alone, take initiative while being open, transparent, accountable and consultative.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and deliver tasks on time.
  • Demonstrate creativity and is easily able to provide novel media solutions.
  • Participate effectively in a team.
