To commemorate the 2014 Global Day of Action for the Decriminalization of Abortion, the panel will explore the linkages between abortion stigma, criminalization and restrictive laws and policies, and examine their impact on the rights of women, particularly adolescent girls.

The panel will give States, UN Agencies, and Non-Governmental Organizations the opportunity to discuss the various socio-political and legal situations that increase abortion stigma and hamper women’s and adolescent girls’ realization of their rights. It will also provide an opportunity to discuss strategies for reducing the same, including the role of the Human Rights Council.
