The 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council took place from 24 February to 04 April 2025. The ongoing liquidity crisis experienced by the United Nations, which deeply affects the Council’s functioning, has once again put civil society organisations under an additional and significant burden - especially when it comes to accessing hybrid modalities and organising side events. The United Nations Office at Geneva is now charging civil society for the use of interpretation booths at side events as well as for the use of any type of hybrid modality, such as Webex.

La sesión 58° del Consejo de Derechos Humanos de la ONU tuvo lugar del 24 de febrero al 4 de abril de 2025. Una vez más, la crisis de liquidez que enfrentan las Naciones Unidas y que afecta profundamente el funcionamiento del Consejo implicó una carga adicional y significativa para las organizaciones de sociedad civil, sobre todo en cuanto al acceso a modalidades híbridas y la realización de eventos paralelos. Ahora la Oficina de Naciones Unidas en Ginebra cobra a las organizaciones de sociedad civil por el uso de las cabinas de interpretación en eventos paralelos y también por emplear cualquier tipo de modalidad híbrida como Webex.

La 58e session du Conseil des droits de l’homme des Nations Unies s’est tenue du 24 février au 4 avril 2025. La crise de liquidité persistante à laquelle font face les Nations Unies continue d’affecter gravement le fonctionnement du Conseil, imposant une charge supplémentaire considérable aux organisations de la société civile, notamment en ce qui concerne l’accès aux modalités hybrides et l’organisation d’événements parallèles. Le Bureau des Nations Unies à Genève facture désormais aux organisations de la société civile l’utilisation des cabines d’interprétation pour les événements parallèles, ainsi que toute modalité hybride, y compris Webex.

International Women’s Day emerged from the struggles of working-class women advocating for fair wages, better working conditions, and voting rights. Yet today, corporate power and abuse have expanded, with a few corporations and ultra-wealthy men wielding unchecked influence that impacts the lives of billions without accountability.

Human Rights do not happen in a void. Currently, a total of 3.3 billion people live in countries that spend more on interest payments than on education, health or climate investment. How can we expect that the standards that we negotiate and push for in this Council are implemented without even the possibility of adequate resourcing, which is forced by the international financial architecture?

While progress has been made, significant gaps remain in ensuring equitable access to youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information and services. Many adolescents and young people, especially in rural and hard-to-reach areas, continue to face barriers such as inadequate health infrastructure, shortages of trained healthcare providers, and financial constraints that prevent them from accessing essential services.

Nuestra contribución evidenció, aparte de los avances en el reconocimiento del trabajo sexual autónomo en el país, las personas trabajadoras sexuales aún enfrentan condiciones laborales inaceptables, detenciones ilegales y agresiones por parte de la Policía, incluyendo varios casos de violación sexual. Delitos que quedan en la impunidad. La razón primaria de todos ellos es el estigma hacia el trabajo sexual y la discriminación hacia las personas trabajadoras sexuales.

We call on the international community to support the DRC's efforts to build institutional capacity, raise community awareness and ensure access to affordable and quality reproductive health services. These measures will help to reduce maternal mortality, promote gender equality and respect women's rights.

Nous appelons la communauté internationale à soutenir les efforts de la RDC à renforcer les capacités institutionnelles, sensibiliser les communautés et garantir l'accès à des services de santé reproductive de qualité. Ces mesures contribueront à réduire la mortalité maternelle, à promouvoir l'égalité des genres et à respecter les droits des femmes.
